Plus, I've started couponing, which increases mistakes by a lot - both over- and undercharging. I decided to take an average approach. I chose a dollar amount (mine is $5, since I do big grocery trips all at once $100+ at a time) and anytime they over- or undercharge me, and it's less than $5 - I don't do anything about it. I did keep track to start with to make sure it averaged out, and it came pretty close. This may not work for everyone, but I had to find a solution when I found myself standing in line at customer service every other grocery trip with tired children. That being said, my mistakes are usually coupon errors, scanning one twice, forgeting to scan one that was stuck together, etc. I often shop with 5 kids – ages 9 and under. If I couldn't go back in that day, I probably would have called when I got home and brought my receipt back at a later date. I always pause after the check-out and check the receipt. I have a family of 7..every cent matters, but sometimes the energy it took to carry the 35lb baby back in the store is worth the $1.59. Just remember if you caught this mistake..how many others are there when you are shopping for a lot of groceries. I am a big bargain shopper and I really pay attention at the checkout.
