Computer programming for 7 to 17 year olds?

Don’t you need at least a 4 year degree to be able to do that?

Not if you have a subscription to Tektoma! This website walks a student through the process of programming a video game through online videos. For this review, I had my 10 year old son test out the product. He sort of likes video games – like I sort of like chocolate! Do I have to say that he LOVED the chance to review this product?

A little more background in case you haven’t heard of Tektoma before this. Tom Marx and Matilda O’Connor created Tektoma in 2009. Tom was a software developer for 10 years before he opened a summer camp in Colorado for kids interested in computers and technology. Matilda worked for high-tech and manufacturing companies for 20 years before opening the Texas branch of the Colorado summer camp. These guys know kids and they know computers!

The folks at Tektoma strive to ensure that your children will be learning in a safe environment. Everything the student comes into contact with has been moderated for appropriate language, content and graphics. You will feel safe with even your youngest child using this program.

The content on the site is being updated monthly, so your kids will never have “learned it all”! There always something new happening. And, the students have a safe place to talk about what they are learning – the forum! It is a private and secure member’s only forum in which all posts are reviewed by a member of Tektoma in order to make sure everything is in compliance and to answer questions.

Here is what my son had to say about his experience with creating a racing video game:

“The download to get started was easy and short.  The directions for making the game were easy to follow.  It was a lot fun – I liked figuring out what I did wrong.  I liked the directions being given by video, not by reading and seeing someone doing the steps instead of just reading about it.”

Tektoma has a free preview available so that you can check out what we’re speaking of.

Pricing

$14.95 per month or $140 per year is all it takes to provide this opportunity for your student!  You can also sign up for a free 14 day trial to try it out before you invest – and to make sure your student will enjoy the experience.
