Watching my 11-year-old (as of today!) son hunt and peck for letters on the keyboard is nearly painful. I know that if I keep doing it for him, he'll never learn but I can hardly help myself. We really need a keyboarding course!
We got Mavis and it would probably be fine if we did it regularly. But then, we received a free copy of Christian Keyboarding by Leanna Beitel in exchange for an honest review of the product. What could be better than learning to type proficiently AND doing it by typing Bible verses instead of just random sentences? It is the perfect combination!
The program starts out nice a slowly by going through all the letters and teaching good keyboarding habits right away. Then, it jumps into short verses once the student is comfortable with what they have learned. Every part of the keyboard it taught very thoroughly and comprehensively. There are two different versions of the program – one for elementary aged students and one that is more advanced. The younger version has more visual aids within and more white space on each page so as not to overwhelm the little guys.
I really liked the fact that one lesson includes a list of "How to Have a Personal Relationship with God". I thought that was wonderful!
The only issue I have with the program is the Bible version they chose to use. Without getting into the debate regarding which Bible version to use, I'll just say, without apology, that we only use the King James Bible. I believe the program uses the New International Version. (Yes – you CAN still find out how to have a personal relationship with God from the NIV!)
