The program consists of copywork to teach your student the desired type of handwriting. Students first are presented with the quote to look at. Then, for the younger students, the same quote is shown as just outlines – they follow the inside with their pen. After that, they trace the quote and finally they write the quote on their own.
In the younger years, the students are taught a more plain type of the style of writing. As the students gets older, they are taught more of the flair and the letters get progressively smaller.
As far as I could tell, there wasn't any real instruction given regarding the style being taught, where it came from, or how you could use it today. Maybe a little more substance would have helped me to understand why my kids might want or need to learn a new style of writing – but, with all the other things I need to teach them on a daily basis, I really want to just make sure their regular writing is absolutely perfect.
Also, this may not be the best fit for our family right now because my children happen to come by their handwriting very easily and they do it very well without much instruction at all. I can definitely see this type of product working for a family with children who are having a hard time with handwriting – maybe a different style would intrigue them a little more and make things more exciting!
I did appreciate the fact that it was straight forward "doing" rather than lots of graphics and pretty pictures. Those are nice, but they waste lots of room that should be used for actual handwriting.
Overall, in tight times with homeschooling families facing stricter budgets than ever, I just can't recommend spending the money on a handwriting program for a style outside of your regular, everyday writing. Zeezok does offer other handwriting programs that would more closely resemble regular handwriting.
